At the time, Christine and I had been dating nearly four and a half years.
Christine enjoys unique ideas so I knew the proposal had to be no different.
As some of you may know, she loves adventure reality television shows, especially
Treasure Hunters. So, with my brother's brilliant input, we got the idea of
letting her take part in the game by giving her clues to places of our First's.
On Saturday, September 16, 2006, Christine was supposed to go to brunch with a
girlfriend but instead, she received her first clue: where we first met
(Engineering Building II at UCSD).
When she arrived, she was greeted by a
group of close friends who provided her the next clue: our first date
(Price Center Theatre).
Third clue: our first dance (Sea World).
The next clue: our first kiss (The Cliffs in La Jolla).
Finally, the last clue: our first sunrise (Mount Soledad).
Upon her arrival, I greeted her with her
favorite flowers and asked her to sit on a bench overlooking La Jolla and
the Pacific Ocean. Because our faith in Christ is important to us, I washed
her feet as Jesus did as an outward expression of my joy to serve her.
Then it was time to make her cry! With one knee down and a ring in hand,
I popped the question. Christine said yes(!) but since our friends in
attendance could not hear, I asked her to repeat her answer more loudly.
With that, our friends cheered and gave us hugs…even bystanders applauded!
Whew! I can wipe the sweat off my brow now!
